Coughlin-Alumni Stadium

Last week was historic for South Dakota State University, Jackrabbits Football, and the Brookings community. The new football stadium, Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, held its first concert and football game.

With all the excitement surrounding this new era, we want to take a moment to look back. The previous SDSU football stadium, Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, was built in 1962 and cost $300,000. The stadium was named after Charles Coughlin, a 1909 State graduate who donated $50,000 to the project. The rest of the money was raised by alumni and students. The stadium was home to the Jacks for 54 years. Many memories were made on the field and in the stands, and although it is gone the memories will still live on.
