With topics ranging from the Revolutionary War to the present, Smithsonian Education serves as a great tool for historical inquiry. Smithsonian Education provides K-12th grade lesson plans that contain numerous activities to utilize in the classroom. Spanish Language lesson plans are also available.

North Dakota Studies

The State Historical Society of North Dakota has created in-depth user friendly online interactive lessons and resources that relate to North Dakota History topics such as Citizenship, Frontier Era of North Dakota, American Indians of North Dakota, Early Settlement of North Dakota, North Dakota Agriculture and more. Currently there is material geared at 4th grade, 8th grade, and high school available.

North Dakota Indian Studies

The State Historical Society of North Dakota has created online curriculum guides to present the history and culture of North Dakota’s four tribal nations from their origin to contemporary society.The material explores , traditional and contemporary governments, demographics, cultures, and creation narratives, and contains a generalized overview about tribal history for each tribe. The online content is presented with the hope that readers will develop a better understanding about the people at Standing Rock, Spirit Lake, Turtle Mountain, and the Three Affiliated tribal nations.

Kids.gov is the official kids’ portal for the U.S. government, created by USA.gov. The website hosts numerous lesson plan options on a variety of historical subject matters. The website also contains numerous activities to accompany each lesson plan. All lesson plan have varying customization options such as educational standards, time requirements, and in some cases the grade specific projects.
