Middle and high school students from across South Dakota, who qualified at their respected Region contests, will compete their historical research projects ranging from documentaries, exhibits, research papers, performances, and websites at the 2018 NHD in SD State Contest. Winners at the state contest are eligible to compete against all 50 states and 6 other nations at the National Contest at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. The general public is welcome to view student projects during public viewing hours.

National History Day is a year-long academic program focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression for 6th- to 12th-grade students through project based learning. The program while promoting a love of research and history, also promotes critical thinking, writing, and research skills, and boosts performance across all subjects’ historical methods.
