JELL-O Recipe Books
Invented in 1897, JELL-O is known as America’s most famous dessert. Strawberry, lemon, orange, and raspberry were the original flavors with lime being added in the 1930s. Recipe books like these were published by the company beginning in 1903. They hired famous illustrators (have you heard of Norman Rockwell by chance?) to create vibrant covers that appealed to the American housewife. Many women enjoyed making JELL-O for their families because it was easy and affordable. During the Great Depression JELL-O was especially popular because it was so cheap.
