Late Summer/Early Fall Projects

After about a month of being closed for various maintenance and exhibit projects, we are open with a new exhibit and gallery space!

Our first project was to take down part of the South Dakota Made exhibit and put the artifacts back in storage. The Farm Horse and Dakota Tractor from that exhibit are still on display in the east gallery. This project took a lot of elbow grease, but it allowed us to open up a much-needed large space for programming. Thanks to Jerry, Dawn, Bill, and John for their help.

Next, we had an asbestos abatement done on a pipe that runs all around the exhibit spaces of the museum, and our front doors got a necessary face lift.

Our final BIG project was prepping the space for and  installing our new exhibit, Barley to Barrel: Science and History of South Dakota. First, we painted the walls a rich chocolate brown and added a decorative stripe. Then we printed and mounted text, photos, and labels. Finally, we installed all the elements of the exhibit. We could not be happier with the final product and cannot wait for you to see it!
