Premium advertising.

Grain elevators are rapidly disappearing from the South Dakota skyline.  These iconic structures were the main engine of many small towns and were located along the railroad.  Grain elevator operators would give away advertising premiums like this salt and pepper set.  They are ceramic and made in Japan.  Printed across the front of one of the 3 ¼” X 1 ¼” X 1 ¼” shakers is “For a fair shake. Local Elevators.  Woonsocket, SD.”  2011:029:005, Dennis Parker. #WhatsNewWednesday
