Sharples Super Centrifuge

This week’s #WhatsNewWednesday artifact was recently found in the museum’s workshop. We do not know when it came to the museum or who donated it. In cases like this the artifact is made a “Found In Collection” piece. This means it is part of the collection, but little is known about its provenance (history). This particular piece has an SDSU Property Management tag on it so we are guessing it was at one time used in a lab on campus. The pipes at the top are for connecting to steam power. We would date this piece between 1900-1940.

Does anyone recognize this piece or have an idea what exactly it is used for?
