Sheep Exhibit wins Shepherd’s Award from SDSGA
The South Dakota Sheep Growers awarded the 2017 Shepherd’s Award to the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum for its exhibit, “The Unspun Tale: Sheep in South Dakota.” The exhibit told the past, present and future story of sheep production in the state.
“The South Dakota Sheep Growers selected the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum as this year’s award winner because of its outstanding documentation and presentation of the sheep industry in South Dakota,” said Rufus DeZeeuw, president of the S.D. Sheep Growers board.
“We are very honored and humbled to receive the Shepherd’s Award,” Gwen McCausland, director of the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum, said. “We set out to create exhibits and educational programming that makes a difference in our community, but it is hard to quantify. Based on the comments we have received from museum patrons and sheep producers, this exhibit connected with audiences more than we had anticipated. It set the bar high.”
More than 12,000 visitors viewed the exhibit while it was on display at the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum from April 29, 2016-Oct. 1, 2017.
