South Dakota State Fair

85 62 94

It is state fair time, folks! This year the fair runs from September 1-5 at the fairgrounds in Huron, SD. It features animals, food, games, rides, big time entertainment, and much more. You do not want to miss it!

The first state fair was held in Huron from September 29 through October 2 in 1885. For the next 20 years the site of the fair changed between Huron, Mitchell, Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, and Yankton. Finally in 1905, Huron was picked as the permanent location. The state was deeded 85 acres from the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company, valued at $50,000, for the fairgrounds.
