Tree Farm Sign

For this week’s What’s New Wednesday photo, we have this Tree Farm Sign. The sign is on display in the Through Leland Sudlow’s Lens: 40 years of Extension Service History exhibit untill the end of February. The American Tree Farm System, established in 1942, promoted stewardship of woodlands on private lands.  Landowners participating in the program have to maintain their woodland and produce wood products for profit.  Examples of woodland products that can be sold included Christmas trees, saplings for transplant, lumber, logs, posts, and firewood.  Today the Tree Farm System promotes whole environment stewardship.
